We have all been there at some point. The alarm goes off to wake us from our perfect slumber and we remember that we have to get up out of bed and go to that job/meeting/lecture/whatever it may be. Our heart sinks and we let out a sigh of defeat. We stretch, shower, dress and head out to start the grind. Most of us repeat this crazy task at least 5 times a week. But why? Why can't our lives be like the ones of TV where celebrities/writers/actors/wealthy people do everything at their own pace? Why must we be the ones that live the life of stress, pain, frustration and everything else that comes from living a life that we never dreamed of as a 7-year-old child? The short answer is that you don't have to live this life like this. Most of those people that live the dream life weren't born into it, they created it and you can too.
Will It Be Quick?
Now, unfortunately, there isn't a magic pill that will change this overnight but there steps that you can take to get you to where you want to be in the long term. Remember even Everest wasn't created in a day. It took trillions of tiny persistent water droplets to forge our planets highest point. Building towards your life's dreams will be similar. With persistence and consistency, you too can achieve great heights.
So where does a life coach come into this and why would I need one? The best way to answer this is to compare it to something most of us are familiar with. Personal Trainers. We all know how to get fit. Eat healthily and get more exercise. So why on earth would the invention of Personal Trainers ever need to come to fruition? Because they are the people on the day we decide not to go to the gym, get us there. Those are the days that we build the muscles or lose the fat the most because they build habits, battle temptation and promote self-discipline. A Life Coach is the same but for your mind. We help break down barriers that prevent you from reaching your full potential. We promote self-confidence and we help find the answers to get you to where you want to go. You all know the direction you need to walk, we help provide the map. Our job is to help guide you. We won't tell you what to do and we are 100% not counsellors. We won't be able to fix your issues or create your dreams in one or two sessions and anyone that states they can should be well avoided.
Is This Just Therapy?
Life Coaches will bury deep into your mind to see what roadblocks are there and will find ways to get around them. Each session will usually have action points to take away and work on between the meetings and require the client to record their successes in a diary. This journal proves a measure of your journey.
Before each meeting, the Life Coach will plan out what the session will involve and provide feedback from the previous one. It's important to remember that it is the client's responsibility to take full ownership of the actions provided. There is no one to hide behind and no one to blame. You are fully exposed to the cold hard truth if you don't take action and thus, in turn, shows you the major obstacle in your life. Yourself!
This road is a long one but with a little bit of help and someone to accompany you on your journey, you usually find the destination is more enjoyable and your arrival is far quicker.
